LERNER PUBLICATIONS

I wrote and provided photography for ten books for Lerner Publications of Minneapolis. These were all hard bound picture books aimed at young readers and school libraries. I worked with several editors and all were very professional and supportive of my efforts.

SPORTS FOR ME

Five of my books for Lerner were published between 1981 and 1984 in their Sports for Me series. I wrote the text, recruited the young people who became models for the photography, most of which I did myself. It was great fun doing these, making the children superstars in their own books.

FAMILIES AROUND THE WORD

I wrote two books in this series. Both were fabulous opportunities and allowed me to spend time in the countries I was writing about, Mexico and Ireland. What was so special was getting to know the families who were the subjects of the books and experience their way of life. The Irish family lived outside the city of Galway in the Gaeltacht, the Irish-speaking areas of the country. It was a great pleasure to get to know them and document their lives. A Family in Ireland was published in 1986. In Mexico, I followed a family who lived in Oaxaca with my notebook and cameras and they introduced me to a Mexico that few tourists get to know or experience. A Family in Mexico was released in 1987.

OTHER LERNER TITLES

I wrote three other books for Lerner. Two were titles in a series of adventure sports books meant for readers somewhat older than those of the Sports for Me series. One was River Thrill Sports (with co-author Andrew David) which in 1983 introduced readers to white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing. The other was Bicycle Motocross which looked at what was an infant sport when the book was released in 1986 and is now a popular event in the Summer Olympic games. I also wrote The U.S.Army, part of a series that covered the service branches. The book, released in 1990, told the history of our army and described its culture and organization.
